You Still Have Work To Do

Hi Brother

You Still Have Work To Do

There comes a point in life when you realize you probably have fewer years in front of you than behind you.

I don't find that depressing.

I find it clarifying.

At 56, I don't have much interest in wasting time pretending otherwise.

I've had good years. Hard years. Years when everything seemed to be moving forward, and others that left a few dents.

I've spent more than four decades under the iron.

I've watched my body get stronger, get older, get injured and get rebuilt.

And somewhere along the way, my reason for doing all of this changed.

When I was younger, I wanted to build a body.

Now I want to build a body that lets me keep living the life I've worked for.

That's a very different thing.

Because eventually you realize the real enemy isn't age.

It's surrendering things before age actually takes them.

Strength.

Movement.

Independence.

Ambition.

The expectation that there's still something ahead of you worth preparing for.

That's the one I refuse to give up.

I still expect something from myself.

And I hope you do too.

Not because we need to prove anything to anyone.

We've lived long enough to know how pointless that game is.

But because we're still here.

And while we're here, I think we owe it to ourselves to find out just how much of this life we can continue to carry.

There are places you haven't been yet.

People who will still need you.

Things you haven't built.

Conversations you haven't had.

Mornings you haven't woken up to.

And versions of yourself you haven't met.

That's why I think strength after 50 is about far more than muscle.

You're building capacity for a future you haven't lived yet.

You don't know exactly what that future is going to ask of you.

Neither do I.

So build the man who'll be ready when it arrives.

Strong enough to carry his share.

Mobile enough to remain involved.

Resilient enough to take a hit.

And stubborn enough to get back up when life decides to test the structure.

Don't retire yourself early.

Don't start lowering expectations just because another birthday went past.

And don't make the mistake of believing the most interesting version of you has already existed.

Maybe he hasn't.

Maybe he's the one you're building now.

You still have work to do.

So do I.

P.S. I’ve been working on something for a long time that comes directly from everything I’ve been writing to you about in these emails.

It's called Unbreakable After 50 — The Structural Rebuild.

And today, I can finally tell you:

It's out.

I wrote it for men like us. Men who aren't interested in pretending they're getting younger, but have absolutely no intention of becoming easier to break.

74 chapters covering the bigger picture: strength, recovery, sleep, stress, nutrition, metabolism, capacity and the thinking behind how we rebuild after 50.

You can read the eBook or listen to the complete audiobook. Click the link below. If these emails have meant something to you, the book is where I finally got to put the whole philosophy in one place.
