Don't Disappear While You're Still Here September 24, 2026 |
Hi BrotherDon't Disappear While You're Still HereThere’s something about getting older that I don't think we talk about enough. You can disappear long before you're gone. Not physically. You're still there. You still get up in the morning, pay the bills, answer the phone and do all the things you're supposed to do. But slowly, almost without noticing, you can begin removing yourself from your own life. You stop doing certain things because they're harder now. You stop going certain places because it's easier not to. You stop expecting as much from your body. You stop making plans quite so far ahead. Eventually, your world becomes smaller. And because it happens a few inches at a time, you barely notice the walls moving in. That's the part that bothers me. I'm not frightened of getting older. I'm frightened of becoming a spectator while I'm still capable of participating. There's a difference. I want to carry my own bags. I want to climb the stairs without thinking about them. I want to get on the floor and know I can get back up. I want to travel. Work. Train. Laugh until something hurts. Help someone move something they probably should have hired three younger men to move. I want to remain useful. And I want the people around me to experience my presence, not simply my existence. That's why I think we need to be careful with the word longevity. Because another ten years isn't automatically a gift. What matters is how much of you arrives with them. Your strength. Your independence. Your curiosity. Your willingness to say yes. Your ability to contribute. Your appetite for whatever comes next. That's what we're really trying to preserve. Not youth. Participation. And perhaps that's the standard worth measuring as the years pass. Not: “How old am I?” But: “How much of my life can I still say yes to?” If that answer starts getting smaller, don't accept it too quickly. Some things genuinely change with age. Others disappear because we stopped asking our bodies to keep them. Learn the difference. Then fight like hell for the things that are still yours to keep. Because one day, life will eventually ask all of us to leave the room. Fair enough. But until that day comes... don't disappear while you're still here. — Psymon P.S. Last week I told you that Unbreakable After 50 — The Structural Rebuild was finally out. I've had a week now to sit with that. And strangely, the thing I'm proudest of isn't simply that I wrote a book. It's that I finally put into words what I've spent years trying to live. The book isn't about trying to stay young. It's about staying capable enough to keep participating in your own life. If that's something you've been thinking about too, you'll understand why I wrote it. UNBREAKABLE AFTER 50 74 chapters. The complete eBook, Paperback and audiobook are available now.
